Up is Down, Black is White, and the Country Doesn’t Need Financial Reform

C’mon, guess who said this:

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

Give up? It was Hitler. And now, this is the very strategy adopted by Glenn Beck, Frank Luntz, and, well, nearly all elected GOP leaders. There is not enough f-you in the world for these guys.

Nevermind people like Beck and Luntz, isn’t there some sort of code of ethics that elected leaders must observe? If not, there should be. Why is it acceptable that Senators engage in “doublespeak” – aka lies – to protect the interests of Wall Street over the interests of their constituents?

Luntz’s elaborate memorandum on financial reform is a collection of falsehoods. It seems self-evident that persons elected to serve our country should not engage in a campaign of lying in exchange for money, jobs, or other remuneration from corporations. What happened to honor, integrity, and a desire to serve the public?

There was a time when “Republican” didn’t mean “pathological liar,” but how far back do we have to go to find it? Before reconciliation was a “controversial trick;” before there were “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq; before Watergate? They’ve taken the party of Lincoln – Honest Abe – and distorted it beyond recognition.

There is no honesty to be found.
